Community Support Worker

Adecco are proud to be recruiting on behalf of Croydon Council for a dedicated and compassionate Community Support Worker to join the Active Lives Service.

This is an excellent opportunity to make a genuine difference in the lives of adults with learning disabilities, autism, and other complex needs by supporting them to develop skills, maintain wellbeing, and achieve greater independence within their local communities.



Location

Successful candidates will be required to report to one of the following locations as required by the service:

  • Addington Heights Day Centre, New Addington Hub, Addington Heights, CR0 0DN
  • Cherry Hub, 171 St James''s Road, Croydon, CR0 2BY

Please note:

  • There is no remote working available for this position.
  • Parking is available at both locations.


Contract Details

  • Temporary assignment initially for 3 months
  • 36 hours per week
  • Monday to Friday
  • -17.59 per hour PAYE or -23.24 per hour Umbrella


About the Role

As a Community Support Worker, you will provide person-centred support to adults aged 19+ with learning disabilities, autism, and complex needs. Working across our hubs and within the local community, you will support people to achieve meaningful outcomes, develop independence, improve wellbeing, and participate in activities that matter to them.

You will deliver engaging and inclusive sessions using Active Support and Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) approaches, helping individuals build confidence, communication skills, and independence while promoting choice, dignity, and community inclusion. The role aligns with Croydon Council''s Active Lives Service, which focuses on delivering person-centred support and improving residents'' wellbeing and independence.



Key Responsibilities

  • Support adults with learning disabilities, autism, and complex needs in both hub-based and community settings.
  • Deliver structured and engaging activities including:
    • Cooking and food preparation
    • Communication development
    • Music and dance
    • Independent living skills
    • Community access and participation
  • Promote wellbeing, independence, choice, and inclusion.
  • Use Positive Behaviour Support techniques and person-centred approaches.
  • Assist with the creation and implementation of risk assessments.
  • Maintain accurate records and resident outcomes using IT systems and databases.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, families, carers, and other professionals to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Provide personal care support, including the use of appropriate equipment where required.


About You

We''re looking for someone who is passionate about supporting people to live fulfilling lives and who shares the values of independence, dignity, equality, and respect.

You will have:

  • NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent) as an essential qualification.
  • Experience supporting vulnerable adults, including individuals with disabilities and behaviours that may challenge.
  • Knowledge and experience of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS).
  • Strong communication skills and experience using a range of communication methods.
  • The ability to support people to make choices and express their wishes.
  • Creative thinking skills and the ability to design engaging, person-centred activities.
  • Experience working independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong IT and record-keeping skills.
  • A commitment to safeguarding, inclusion, human rights, and promoting independence.
