BSL Support Worker

We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic BSL Support Worker to join a welcoming school environment in Chelmsford, supporting deaf and hearing-impaired students to access learning and develop their confidence.
As a BSL Support Worker, you will work closely with students, teachers and other support staff to provide effective communication and learning support throughout the school day. You will use your British Sign Language skills to help students understand lessons, communicate with others and participate fully in school life.
The successful candidate will hold a minimum Level 2 BSL qualification and have a genuine interest in supporting students with hearing impairments. Previous experience working within a school or SEN setting is desirable, but we are also interested in hearing from candidates with transferable experience and the right attitude.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide BSL communication support to deaf and hearing-impaired students.
- Support students to access classroom activities, lessons and wider school opportunities.
- Work alongside teachers to help create an inclusive and accessible learning environment.
- Build positive and trusting relationships with students.
- Encourage students'' independence, confidence and participation.
- Adapt your communication and support to meet individual needs.
- Maintain professional communication with teachers, support staff and families.
About you
We are looking for a BSL Support Worker who is patient, approachable and passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning. You will need strong communication skills, a calm and supportive approach, and the ability to build positive relationships with students.
A minimum Level 2 BSL qualification is essential for this role, alongside a willingness to use your signing skills confidently within the school environment. Experience supporting deaf students, SEN students or young people with additional needs would be advantageous.
