About the roleApplications are invited for a Research Associate position in the Department of Mathematics at Imperial College London, funded by UK Research and Innovation and will involve stochastic modelling for single-cell dynamics. What you would be doingYou will work closely with Dr Philipp Thomas and the Single Cell Dynamics Group at Imperial College on developing mathematical and data-driven methods for single-cell dynamics. You will join a research programme at the interface of mathematics, statistics, and biology, aimed at understanding how individual cells respond to stress or drug exposure, such as antimicrobials or cancer drugs. The project will combine theory development with data to uncover theoretical principles that govern cell death and survival in heterogeneous and fluctuating environments. You will develop theoretical and computational tools for stochastic models of cellular processes, design and implement statistical inference methods, and work with single-cell data to guide model development and validation. What we are looking forThe essential requirements for this post are as follows:Hold a PhD or equivalent level of professional qualifications and/or experience in applied mathematics, statistics, computational biology, physics, or a related discipline.Experience with stochastic modelling of biological systems, such as using chemical master equations, agent-based models, or stochastic simulation algorithms.A strong background in one or more of the following areas: stochastic processes, statistical inference, multi-scale modelling, or single-cell data analysis.Evidence of original research in mathematical biology, computational modelling, or theoretical physics, commensurate with career stage.Ability to engage in interdisciplinary research and communicate effectively with collaborators from different fields.Ability to identify, develop, and apply new concepts and techniques independently. What we can offer youThe opportunity to continue your career at a world-leading institution and be part of our mission to continue science for humanity.Grow your career: Gain access to Imperial''s sector-leading dedicated career support for researchers as well as opportunities for promotion and progressionSector-leading salary and remuneration package (including 41 days off a year and generous pension schemes).Further informationThe position is full time and fixed term for 24 months.
