Financial Controller

£65,000 – £70,000 + Bonus

Following a period of strong growth, an ambitious Birmingham-based business is entering an exciting next phase of its development and is looking to appoint a Financial Controller to play a key role in that journey.

This is a fantastic time to be joining. As the business continues to grow, so too does the need for a finance function that can support increased scale, provide greater insight and continue to develop its controls, processes and reporting.

Working closely with the CFO, you''ll take ownership of the day-to-day finance function and lead an established finance team. This is a broad, hands-on role combining financial control, management reporting, budgeting and forecasting, team leadership and commercial finance.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Leading and developing an established finance team, with oversight across transactional and operational finance
• Taking ownership of the monthly management accounts process, including journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations
• Producing monthly Board reporting across P&L, balance sheet and cash flow, together with meaningful commentary
• Leading the budgeting, forecasting and reforecasting processes
• Providing departmental analysis, challenging performance against budget and supporting better commercial decision making
• Strengthening financial controls and implementing practical improvements as the business continues to scale
• Reviewing and improving finance processes to create greater efficiency, accuracy and scalability
• Acting as a key business partner to stakeholders across the wider business
• Managing the external audit relationship and supporting the statutory reporting process
• Supporting treasury and cash management
• Providing financial input into commercial initiatives, pricing and new opportunities
• Working closely with the CFO on the continued evolution of the finance function

To be considered for this position, you must:

• Be a fully qualified ACA, ACCA or CIMA accountant
• Live within a realistic commuting distance of Birmingham and be comfortable working on a hybrid basis
• Have a strong financial accounting and financial control background
• Have experience producing and taking ownership of monthly management accounts
• Have previous experience managing and developing a finance team
• Be comfortable operating in a hands-on Financial Controller role rather than purely reviewing the work of others
• Have strong Excel skills and be confident working with financial data
• Be commercially aware, with the confidence to challenge stakeholders and improve existing processes
• Experience within a privately owned, entrepreneurial or growing commercial organisation would be particularly relevant.
