Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer

Overview
The role: The candidate will need to have a strong design background and be able to work within a team environment, supporting the design delivery of existing projects and the growth of the existing client base. Previous experience and knowledge of the local Civil Engineering market is desirable.Responsibilities
Design delivery of the geotechnical elements of existing and future projectsCo-ordinate with other engineers both in the regional offices and between groupsPrepare budgets, proposals and resource requirements for projectsPrepare calculations, drawings and other documents and ensuring these are controlled during the execution of projectsSupport less experienced staff, sharing knowledge and acting as a coach or mentorSpecify and/or manage site examination and investigation workIdentify and manage risks for the work to agreed acceptable levelsDevelop the relationship between the company and new and existing clients in order to identify potential workContribute to the management of the company by participating in Action GroupsComply with the Company Health and Safety procedures, Quality Assurance/Environmental Management system procedures and documentation, CDM Regulations and general legislationProvide support to the Quality Manager by participating in training, audits and providing feedbackSkills and Experience Required
MEng/BEng in Civil Engineering, with an MSc in Geotechnical Engineering and/or PhD in Geotechnical EngineeringChartered EngineerMinimum of 10 years’ experience post-graduation in Geotechnical Engineering and Geotechnical Design to current UK standards, particularly Eurocodes, with detailed understanding of the following Geotechnical processes: Earthworks; Remediation; Earthworks Design; Soil nailed slopes; Reinforced soil slopes and walls; Piled foundations; Shallow foundations; Embedding retaining walls; Gravity retaining walls; Deep basements; Ground improvement/treatment; Environmental EngineeringUse of computer software for the analysis of geotechnical problems, preferably to include the use of Finite Element or other numerical methodsGeotechnical report writing both Ground Investigation and Geotechnical Design Reports to BS EN1997 and the production of design specificationsPreparation of design documentation, e.g. Forms F001 and F003 on Network Rail projectsBudget control and programmingSupervision of a Geotechnical teamExcellent communication both oral and writtenAbility to work on own and within a team to meet project, client, company and personal objectivesAbility to provide technical direction to a team of geotechnical professionalsAbility to present the outcomes of Geotechnical designs to other professionals both internally and to exterior clientsA challenging attitude to the solution of engineering problems in order to achieve cost effective designs and develop innovative solutionsAwareness of the importance of costs and the need to complete projects on time and to budget
