The Procurement & Supply Chain Division at SF Partners are looking for an experienced Buyer with a background in plant machinery, equipment or tool hire to join a growing procurement function.
The successful candidate will be responsible for sourcing and purchasing a range of plant, machinery, tools and associated equipment, ensuring the business has access to the right products at the right price and quality. This is a hands-on buying role suited to someone with strong supplier relationships and a good understanding of the plant and hire market.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the purchasing of plant machinery, tools, equipment and related products.
- Source new suppliers and identify opportunities to improve product availability and commercial value.
- Negotiate pricing, terms, lead times and commercial agreements with suppliers.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key manufacturers, distributors and suppliers.
- Monitor market trends, new equipment and emerging products across the plant and tool hire sector.
- Work closely with internal teams to understand purchasing requirements and ensure demand is met.
- Review supplier performance, pricing and availability, taking action where improvements are required.
- Support stock and inventory planning to ensure appropriate levels of equipment are available.
- Obtain and analyse quotations, comparing options to achieve the best overall commercial outcome.
- Maintain accurate purchasing records and ensure orders are placed and delivered in line with requirements.
Experience & Skills Required
- Previous experience in a Buyer or Procurement position within plant hire, tool hire, construction equipment, machinery or a related sector.
- Strong knowledge of plant machinery, tools and/or equipment procurement.
- Proven experience negotiating with suppliers and securing competitive commercial terms.
- Established relationships within the plant, machinery, equipment or hire market would be highly advantageous.
- Commercially minded with strong attention to cost, quality and availability.
- Confident communicator with the ability to build effective supplier relationships.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple purchasing requirements simultaneously.
- Good IT and Excel skills, with experience using purchasing or ERP systems.
