Design Manager

Altera Recruitment Group is representing an established engineering consultancy working across the UK water and wastewater sector, as they look to appoint an experienced Design Manager to strengthen their growing team.

This is a senior position suited to an experinced Design Manager-who enjoys taking ownership of complex design projects and bringing together multiple engineering disciplines to deliver practical, compliant and commercially effective solutions. You will have involvement across the full project lifecycle, from early feasibility and design development through to construction support and handover.

Key Responsibilities of Design Manager

• Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams delivering water and wastewater projects across treatment, infrastructure and associated assets.
• Take technical ownership of design packages, ensuring engineering solutions are robust, compliant, buildable, cost effective and aligned with project requirements.
• Manage design delivery from feasibility and optioneering through detailed design, construction support, commissioning and project handover.
• Provide technical leadership to engineers and technicians, supporting their development while coordinating resources, programmes, risks and project priorities.
• Act as a key technical contact for clients and stakeholders, contributing to design reviews, technical discussions, proposals and project meetings.

Candidate Requirements

• A degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Process Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
• Chartered Engineer status, or demonstrable progress towards professional registration through an appropriate institution such as ICE, IMechE, IET or CIWEM.
• Significant experience delivering engineering design within the UK water or wastewater sector, ideally covering treatment works, pumping stations, pipelines or associated infrastructure.
• Proven experience leading multidisciplinary design teams and taking technical responsibility for medium to large scale engineering projects.
• Strong understanding of UK engineering standards, regulatory requirements, health and safety obligations and CDM 2015.

Experience with BIM and digital engineering platforms, Design & Build environments, NEC contracts, hydraulic or process modelling, ICA systems or AMP programmes would also be advantageous.
