Overview

Are you ready to take responsibility for ensuring academic and pastoral success for a year group? At the King Edmund School, we are entering a bold new chapter with a brand-new building, an aspirational student body, and a new Headteacher. We are seeking to appoint a Head of Year for Year 8 to deliver the highest standard of pastoral care within the year group. The post-holder will be one of seven Heads of Year, playing a vital role in delivering an excellent climate for learning across the school. We are determined to become the school of choice in Essex—a place where every young person is challenged, supported, and inspired to thrive.This role is about creating and sustaining a positive ethos, an orderly atmosphere, and strong home–school links as part of a collaborative pastoral team.

Responsibilities

Lead and support a Year 8 form tutor team to manage welfare, guidance, and disciplinary issues within the year group.Work closely with the Line Manager, Designated Safeguarding Lead, Student Support, and the Pastoral Team.Promote a positive ethos and contribute to an orderly environment across the school.Foster productive home–school links and ensure consistent pastoral provision for Year 8 students.

What We''re Looking For

Ideally at least 1 year of experience in a similar role, but not essentialStrong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire both students and staffExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsOrganisational abilities to manage the academic progress and well-being of Year 8 students effectivelyPassionate about supporting student development and fostering a positive learning environmentCommitment to promoting inclusivity, diversity, and equality within the school communityDedication to high standards of academic excellence while nurturing individual student growthCollaborative mindset with the ability to work closely with colleagues, parents, and external stakeholders
