Military Medical Examiner
– Ministry of Defence (MoD) is being recruited by Pertemps Medical on behalf of the MoD project. Contract: Initial 6 months with a view to extend to 18 months. Location: onshore Royal Navy / Marine bases across Great Britain. Hours: 08.00 – 17.30, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Start Date: ASAP. Contract Type: Part-time. Payment Type: PAYE. Base Salary: £60k (dependent on experience).

Position OverviewPertemps Medical is seeking to add to its brilliant team. The Military Medical Examiner is responsible for the safe, effective and timely delivery of medical assessments on behalf of the Ministry of Defence for new recruits to the Royal Navy and the Marines, to determine their suitability for entry into the training program. This involves adopting a holistic medical approach for overall health and identifying any key factors for further review as highlighted by a senior doctor’s pre-assessment of a candidate’s primary care notes. Full training is provided, and reference material supports the clinicians.
Responsibilities
To keep up to date with all required training needs and good practice commensurate with the role
Pre-screening of the full GP record of Navy/Marine applicants to identify medical issues that might bar entry
Pre-joining fitness assessments for Marines
Meet with candidates face-to-face to obtain more details on conditions and assess current impact
Full body examinations (no PR genitalia or breasts)
Make a decision on fitness to enter, or refer to Senior Navy doctors for further review
Complete the appropriate forms and inform the applicants of the decision
Attend occupational health meetings if necessary to discuss and review cases
Ensure proper and robust record-keeping is maintained
Safeguard candidate welfare by maintaining the highest standards of medical practice
Be present/onsite when delivering this role
Declare any conflicts of interest
Undertake any further activities as required consistent with the aims and objectives of the organisation
Requirements
Full Registration with the GMC and a record of Continuous Professional Development
Full participation in appraisal and revalidation as required by the GMC
Good organisational and communication skills
Team player able to work alongside the clinical team (Navy personnel, GPs, HCAs)
Manage and resolve clinical queries from front-line clinicians by working collaboratively
Appropriately discuss or refer matters needing further input or sign-off by the GP Site Lead or MOD personnel
Identify clinical concerns early and take appropriate action
Follow Clinical Governance and clinical guidance and pathways as appropriate
Foster a supportive and collaborative environment
