Principal Mechanical Design Engineers (Water)

for major long-term frameworks across the UK, including a £100 million framework with United Utilities to improve river health in the Northwest.RPS has over 20 years of collaboration with United Utilities on innovative projects. As we approach AMP8, this is an exciting time to work in the water industry, creating positive change.Under this 10-year framework, RPS will optimize programs, develop solutions, and select the best options based on value, carbon footprint, and cost, aiming to deliver exceptional water services and promote sustainability in the Northwest.About The Team:

RPS Water Consulting comprises Engineers, Modellers, and Data Analysts supporting Asset Management and Operational Strategy for water industry clients, with a focus on innovation and teamwork.We also work with several major UK water companies, managing long-term framework agreements. Our water projects span AMP8 into AMP9 and beyond, offering long-term career stability.About You:

You should have experience producing technical specifications, designing pumping and aeration systems, and collaborating on design reviews and safety assessments.You will provide engineering input through drawings, 3D models, and PandIDs, and communicate effectively with clients and team members, including delivering technical presentations and participating in workshops and safety reviews like HAZOPs.You should understand water and wastewater treatment processes and be skilled in assessing existing infrastructure for mechanical design development.Joining us means working on impactful projects with leading organizations, contributing to communities, and leaving a lasting legacy in the water sector. Participate in all project phases from feasibility to construction support, including site surveys.Work on diverse projects within UK water frameworks.Collaborate with project managers, clients, and stakeholders to achieve project goals.Support and mentor junior team members.Review technical designs and reports.Understand and interpret technical drawings, including AutoCAD and Inventor.Conduct asset condition surveys and produce related reports.Contribute to PandID development and mechanical design deliverables.Assist in ensuring project safety and quality compliance.Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles.Experience in the water industry is advantageous.Knowledge of pump design, PandID creation, specifications, and safety regulations.Familiarity with contract procurement methods, including NEC.Ability to manage tasks within time, cost, and quality constraints.Supportive of junior staff development.Willingness to travel to site inspections and witness testing.Proficiency with AutoCAD or similar software is beneficial but not essential.Qualifications:

An IMechE-accredited degree, with postgraduate qualifications preferred.Chartered status or working towards it.Membership or working towards membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., IET, InstMC, CIWEM).What’s in it for you?
