Secondary English Teacher - Alternative Provision | Newcastle

Are you a passionate and resilient English Teacher looking to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people?

Prospero Teaching are working in partnership with a specialist Alternative Provision in Newcastle that is seeking a dedicated Secondary English Teacher to join their team from September 2026. This is a rewarding opportunity to work with students who require additional support due to SEMH needs, challenging behaviours, and barriers to mainstream education, helping them re-engage with learning and achieve positive outcomes.



About the Role:

  • Deliver engaging and differentiated English lessons across KS3 and KS4.
  • Support students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and challenging behaviours.
  • Create a positive, nurturing, and structured learning environment that encourages progress and engagement.
  • Adapt lesson delivery to meet the individual needs and abilities of learners.
  • Assess, monitor, and record student progress and attainment.
  • Build strong, positive relationships with students to support both academic achievement and personal development.
  • Promote positive behaviour strategies and support students in developing confidence, resilience, and independence.
  • Work collaboratively with support staff, parents, and external agencies to achieve the best outcomes for students.


Pay, Hours and Contract:

  • Pay: Up to -210 per day (dependent on experience)
  • Hours: 8:30am - 3:30pm, Monday to Friday
  • Contract: Full-time, long-term position with the potential to become permanent
  • Start Date: September 2026
  • Location: Newcastle upon Tyne


Experience, Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential.
  • A recognised PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Previous experience teaching English within a secondary school setting.
  • Experience working in an Alternative Provision, PRU, SEMH setting, or with students displaying challenging behaviour is highly desirable.
  • Strong behaviour management and classroom management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to engage and inspire students who may have become disengaged from education.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Hold an enhanced DBS certificate on the Update Service or be willing to process a new application.
  • Professional references covering the last two years.
