Job Advertisement: Assistant Accountant

Are you a detail-oriented finance professional looking for an exciting opportunity to make a difference? Our client is seeking a dedicated Assistant Accountant to join their team at the Thames Valley Police Force Headquarters in Kidlington. This is a fantastic temporary role running until at least January 30, 2026, offering a competitive salary of -20.07 per hour for a full-time commitment.

Your Role: A Purpose with Impact!
As an Assistant Accountant, you will play a vital role in supporting the force''s strategic priorities through accurate financial management. You will collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure precise financial reporting and forecasting, making a tangible impact on the community.

Key Responsibilities:

Collaborate with Finance Business Partners to deliver an efficient financial management service aligned with strategic priorities.
Contribute to the production of the Force Medium Term Financial Plan (MTFP) and the annual budget, providing crucial analysis and recommendations.
Monitor financial performance by extracting and validating data, evaluating predicted expenditures, and delivering feedback to stakeholders.
Prepare monthly financial analyses and costings, offering expert advice on relevant financial regulations.
Maintain financial records in compliance with audit requirements and accounting standards.
Ensure the timely processing of journals, budget environments, requisitions, and invoices.
Manage grant returns and facilitate income recovery through accurate invoicing.

Who We''re Looking For:

Qualifications: Fully AAT qualified, with proven experience in a finance environment. If you''re part-qualified (ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA), that''s a plus!
Technical Skills: High proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel, and experience in database management. You should excel in analysing complex financial data to provide insightful recommendations.
Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey financial information.
Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively and independently, with a knack for building relationships across the organisation.
Public Sector Knowledge: Experience in a large organisation and familiarity with the public sector will give you an edge.
