Underwriter Level 3 (CandF) – full-time, Birmingham office. Reports into the Underwriter and Team Leader. You will achieve and maintain a profitable, well-balanced and growing portfolio with allocated intermediaries and customers to assist in meeting long-term trading objectives of the Company.Responsibilities
Working on site with intermediary/customers, undertaking end-to-end handling of straightforward cases for the allocated portfolio to deliver the agreed joint business development plans in line with the Company''s overall trading strategyMake effective on-site decisions, within delegated authority, for allocated intermediaries so that work is completed efficientlyWork with the Cargo and Freight Underwriting Manager, the Operations Manager and the underwriting team to develop strong relationships with allocated intermediaries, balancing intermediary needs with the Company''s trading objectives in a way that delivers profitable and balanced growthPlan and process own work so that the relevant part of the team\''s workload is handled efficiently and effectivelyMake a positive input into the team\''s effectiveness, suggesting ways in which work systems and processes can be amended and improvedRespond to and take ownership of customer enquiries and allocated mailIdentify, define and close business opportunities, seeking the input of other members of staffAct as a reference point on all issues for the allocated intermediary/customer, referring complex issues where necessary to ensure a high level of customer serviceEnsure open communication and collaboration across all lines of business and the sales and development functionUndertake other duties as directed within the level of the job functionHelp drive forward good Conduct for the business to deliver the best outcomes for customers / policyholdersUnderstand all appropriate lines of escalation and the responsibilities of the Product Conduct Risk Strategy Group (PCRSG), Underwriting and Claims Sub Committee (UCSC), ExCo and Board for Conduct RiskKnowledge and Skills
Build and maintain strong internal relationships with other team members, the Claims Department, the Sales and Development Team, the Syndicate and the DirectorsBuild and maintain strong external relationships with a range of contacts within the allocated intermediaries and customersAppropriate level of underwriting knowledgeAbility to interpret and effectively use management informationAbility and willingness to learn and understand established systems and processesGood interpersonal and communication skillsPassionate about excellent customer serviceAbility to prioritise own work and manage workloadDiversity, Equity and Inclusion
