Position Summary
JLL Workplace Management seeks a newly qualified Electrical Engineer to join our team at West Quay Shopping Centre, Southampton. This site-based role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your career in facilities maintenance at a premier retail destination, working Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm with training and support to participate in shift patterns including early, late, and weekend coverage.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance Operations-You''ll assist with planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs according to company schedules, learning to accurately utilize the CAFM system for all documentation. With guidance from senior engineers, you''ll develop skills in managing JLL subcontractors on-site and understanding escalation procedures for major issues.
Documentation and Reporting-The role involves learning to produce technical and situational reports, completing activity reports accurately and promptly in line with company procedures, and providing weekly timesheets on schedule. You''ll support the management team by gathering information for quotation preparation on extra works.
Team Collaboration and Development-Working as part of the shift team under supervision, you''ll develop effective communication skills with colleagues and clients, attend team meetings and training sessions, and represent JLL professionally. First-line out-of-hours call-out duties will be introduced gradually as your competence develops.
Safety and Compliance-You''ll learn to use technology systems to ensure contractual compliance, develop understanding of relevant Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality legislation, and actively participate in safety processes including accident investigation, reporting, risk assessments, and auditing under guidance.
Required Qualifications
Essential
- Recently completed Electrical Engineering apprenticeship, NVQ, or City & Guilds qualification
- 18th Edition IEE Wiring and Installation (or 17th Edition with willingness to obtain 18th through company-supported training)
- Basic knowledge of air conditioning, ventilation extraction, plumbing, and general fabric maintenance (or willingness to learn)
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable
- Any work experience or placements in commercial, retail, or facilities maintenance environments
- Exposure to multi-skilled engineering tasks during training
Required Skills
- Good communication abilities and willingness to learn from experienced professionals
- Enthusiastic, proactive approach with commitment to delivering high standards
- Basic IT skills and ability to develop report writing capabilities
- Ability to work under pressure while maintaining safety standards and seeking guidance when needed
- Strong work ethic and reliability
