Senior Design Engineer - Underground Structures (Mining) at WSP. This role focuses on project delivery, technical leadership in design of underground structures, business development, client relationships, and mentoring junior staff within the Mining team and broader infrastructure sectors.A little bit about your role:Producing and checking Engineering deliverables and developing engineering solutions including Design Calculations, Reports, Presentations and Drawings associated with the design of underground structures e.g, tunnels and shaftsWork as part of a diverse team of engineers, scientists and modellers from conceptual design through to detailed design and engineering for constructionCarry out engineering analysis and design using both simple and numerical models from either first principles or to codified processesDevelop and maintain good relationships with both new and existing clientsConduct ad-hoc engineering research and development tasks to support innovative engineering solutionsAssist project managers in the successful delivery of projects by managing own involvement in projects, including time, budget and quality controlOccasional project-based travel and site work, working away both in the UK and overseas; the frequency and duration of this will depend on business and client needsCarry out business development activities including preparation of technical proposalsProvide leadership, mentoring and coaching to other team membersWorking in a collaborative way, supporting intermediate and senior staff, to achieve project goalsDisplay a safety-first attitude in line with an interdependent health and safety culture, promoting a positive health and safety attitudeWhat we will be looking for you to demonstrate:Degree in Civil Engineering or Structural EngineeringDemonstrable engineering experience, post-graduationUnderstanding of structural principles and construction materialsUnderstanding of engineering drawings and the ability to manipulate CAD drawingsExperience with design codes of practicesAbility to make decisions and display initiative, with an innovative and analytical approach to problem-solvingAbility to work both independently and as part of a teamExcellent time-management, time-keeping and organisational capabilities, and ability to work to tight deadlinesProficient user of Microsoft Office packagesDon’t quite meet all the criteria?
