Behaviour Support Assistant - PRU - Full-Time - Bedford
Location: Bedford
Start Date: September 2025 (or ASAP)
Working Hours: Monday to Thursday 8:30am - 4:00pm, early finish on Fridays

Tradewind Recruitment are working in partnership with a specialist Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Bedford to recruit Behaviour Support Assistants to join their committed and experienced team. This is a full-time, long-term role, ideal for individuals with a passion for supporting young people who face barriers to mainstream education.

The Setting
The school supports students who have been permanently excluded or are at risk of exclusion from mainstream schools. Pupils present with a range of social, emotional, and behavioural needs, often linked to trauma, adverse childhood experiences, or additional learning needs.

The Role
As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in helping pupils regulate their emotions, engage with learning, and build positive relationships. Working closely with class teachers, therapists, and pastoral leads, you will:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils aged 11-16

  • Implement behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques to promote a calm, safe environment

  • Assist in delivering tailored learning activities and interventions

  • Help pupils develop self-esteem, resilience and appropriate social skills

  • Monitor and record behaviour and progress, feeding back to the wider team

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience working with young people with challenging behaviour, SEMH needs or in alternative provision

  • Resilience, patience, and a non-judgemental approach

  • Strong behaviour management and excellent communication skills

  • The ability to remain calm under pressure and build trust with pupils

  • A background in youth work, sports coaching, psychology, or education is advantageous
