Site Engineer
This is an excellent opportunity for a Site Engineer who is looking for a role that goes beyond traditional setting out. The successful candidate will have a strong focus on bulk earthworks, quality checks, steel reinforcement alignment and quality assurance, ensuring that works are completed accurately and in accordance with design, specification and industry standards.
Reporting to the Project Manager and Site Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring the quality and compliance of construction activities before concrete pours and subsequent phases of the works commence.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Checks
- Inspect incoming construction materials to ensure they comply with project specifications.
- Check formwork dimensions, positioning and structural stability.
- Carry out routine visual and physical inspections across the site.
- Verify structural layouts and completed works against design drawings and specifications.
- Identify, record and report defects, coordinating prompt remedial action where required.
- Ensure works meet the required safety, quality and construction standards prior to concrete pours or subsequent construction phases.
Steel Reinforcement & Alignment
- Check reinforcement bar diameters, spacing and quantities against drawings and specifications.
- Verify lap lengths, anchorages and cover blocks.
- Inspect reinforcement for cleanliness and ensure it is free from excessive rust, oil or other contaminants.
- Check steel reinforcement is correctly positioned, plumb and level.
- Ensure structural steelwork and reinforcement connections are correctly welded or bolted where applicable.
- Carry out alignment checks and ensure steelwork is installed in accordance with the approved design.
Quality Assurance (QA)
- Maintain comprehensive site quality documentation, inspection records and quality logs.
- Prepare and manage Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) for relevant works and obtain the required sign-offs.
- Oversee material cube testing and non-destructive testing where required.
- Conduct quality audits to ensure compliance with project specifications, drawings and relevant standards.
- Work closely with the Project Manager, Site Management and subcontractors to identify and resolve quality issues.
- Ensure all inspection and testing requirements are completed and appropriately documented.
About You
The ideal candidate will be an experienced Site Engineer or Senior Site Engineer with a strong construction background and demonstrable experience in quality control and assurance.
You should have:
- Previous experience working as a Site Engineer on major construction projects.
- Strong setting out and surveying experience.
- Good knowledge of reinforcement, structural layouts and construction quality requirements.
- Experience carrying out steel/rebar alignment and reinforcement inspections.
- A strong understanding of QA/QC procedures, ITPs and site documentation.
- Experience with material testing, including concrete cube testing, would be advantageous.
- The ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications accurately.
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to identifying potential quality issues.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with site management and subcontractors.
- Relevant engineering qualifications or demonstrable site-based engineering experience.
- Own surveying/engineering equipment is preferred.
About the Contractor
The contractor is a successful Tier 1, multi-disciplinary main contractor with a strong track record of delivering major construction projects nationally.
Their projects range from -10m to over -100m and cover a variety of sectors, including industrial, civil engineering, retail, student accommodation, private rental schemes, offices and industrial fit-out.
Rate & Duration
- -300400 per day, depending on whether own equipment is supplied.
- Start: Monday 24th August
- Duration: Until April 2026
- Location: Swansea
