  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and other support staff to maintain consistent approaches to pupil development.
  • Recognise and respond appropriately to pupils'' emotional, sensory and communication needs.
  • Monitor pupil engagement and progress, sharing observations with teaching staff.

  • Previous experience supporting children, young people or adults with PMLD, complex special educational needs or significant additional care and communication needs.
  • A good understanding of the challenges faced by individuals with complex learning and communication difficulties.
  • Confidence adapting communication and support approaches to meet individual needs.
  • A patient, compassionate and resilient approach to working with pupils who require consistent support.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and follow guidance from teaching staff.
  • Commitment to supporting pupil dignity, inclusion, independence and wellbeing.
  • Availability for full-time, long-term work, with an interest in a potential permanent position.
  • An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to complete a new Enhanced DBS check.

Previous experience working directly with pupils with PMLD in a specialist school would be particularly advantageous. Knowledge of sensory learning approaches, Makaton, the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) or other alternative and augmentative communication methods would also be beneficial, although these are not essential.
