Teaching Assistant (Sports Background) – Basingstoke | Full-Time | Term-Time Role

Basingstoke & surrounding areas | Paid to scale based on experience | 8:30am – 3:30pm | 5 days per week

Are you passionate about sport, physical activity, and helping children thrive in education? GSL Education are seeking a motivated Teaching Assistant with a Sports background to work across supportive schools in and around Basingstoke.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone energetic, proactive, and enthusiastic about supporting learning through PE, outdoor learning, and Forest School activities.

The Role
As a Sports-focused Teaching Assistant, you will:

• Support pupils in the classroom, PE sessions, and outdoor learning
• Assist teachers in delivering engaging and active learning experiences
• Promote physical activity, confidence, and teamwork
• Support pupils with additional needs where required
• Help implement behaviour strategies and positive interventions
• Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and parents

We work closely with a large trust across Basingstoke and surrounding Hampshire areas, supporting a range of primary and specialist provisions. Schools are inclusive, welcoming, and committed to pupil development both academically and socially.

What We’re Looking For

• Experience working with children (schools, coaching, youth work or similar)
• Background in sport, PE, coaching, or outdoor education – highly desirable
• Confident supporting children with additional needs (SEND experience preferred)
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Patience, empathy, and a proactive attitude
• A UK driving licence and access to a vehicle; preferred

Safeguarding & Requirements
All applicants must hold (or be willing to obtain) an enhanced DBS on the update service and complete full safeguarding checks. A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection is essential.
