Location: Luton
Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 DoE
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 4.30pm, with some flexibility
My client is a world leader in the design and manufacture of special-purpose machinery. With over five decades of engineering excellence, their innovative solutions are trusted by businesses across the globe. This highly successful company are looking for a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join their small team creating mechanical solutions that support both engineering and production teams. Your work will focus on delivering high-performance, export-ready equipment tailored to meet the demands of global manufacturing. This is a hands-on role where your technical expertise and creativity will directly contribute to the company’s ongoing growth and innovation.
Key Responsibilities of the Mechanical Design Engineer:
- Lead the design of Mechanical Solutions from initial concept to finalised technical drawings.
- Create 3D Models and 2D Drawings of components used, prioritising Sheet Metal, Fabrication, Rotating Machinery, Drive Systems, Linear Motion, and Automation.
- Work closely with internal teams, clients, and suppliers to ensure that all designs align with both engineering standards and commercial objectives.
- Conduct design evaluations to ensure systems are functional, easy to manufacture, and cost-effective.
- Proactively research, assess, and integrate new technologies and engineering practices to enhance product designs, efficiency, and innovation.
- Create and manage supporting documentation, including bills of materials, design risk assessments, technical datasheets, and equipment operation manuals.
Required Experience & Skills for the Mechanical Design Engineer
- Experience in Machinery Design, special-purpose machinery or industrial equipment is preferred.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD is essential.
- Experience in 2D CAD is preferred.
- Basic understanding of how electrical and pneumatic systems interface with mechanical design.
- Experience in conducting off-site client meetings.
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel, Outlook, and Word.
- Great communicator and ability to build strong internal and external relationships.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Self-Motivated with a proactive mindset and genuine enthusiasm for creative, forward-thinking design solutions.
