MoneyGram Haas F1 Team . This position reports to the Head of Performance Systems or their designee and is located in Banbury, UK. The role will be in close cooperation with Race Engineering, the Vehicle Performance Group, the Mathematical Modelling Group and with our Italy-based Design Office and Aerodynamics groups.General Responsibilities
Manage group personnel from recruitment, onboarding, employee engagement through to separation.Promote teamwork, communication, and collaboration towards key goals, to enhance working relationships between all personnel and departments.Mentor, train and guide personnel as required.Develop staff using effective performance reviews and development plans.Regular two-way communication, including understanding the tools other groups feel they need to deliver performance and explaining the group’s established and evolving capabilities.Work with the team’s Software Engineers to automate repetitive processes and enhance the usefulness of the toolset through API (including microservice) and/or GUI development.Publish concise reports conveying any key developments or findings.Work with lab test engineers to improve experimental test facilities and processes.Follow all safety regulations in all venues.Assume any responsibilities and duties delegated by the Head of Performance Systems or their designee.Key Responsibilities
Ensure business critical projects are run to creatively develop and leverage an established set of custom in-house modelling and simulation tools, applied to the analysis of the car’s performance during the season and future improvements of performance impact across the car.Propose and/or coordinate experimental confirmation testing – in-house, off-site, and at the track.Oversee the development of physics models and analysis approaches (including simulation and optimization) to enhance the team’s capability to provide clear direction on how the car’s performance could be improved, whilst meeting regulations.Lead with the objective to improve the wider team’s understanding of the operation and behavior of both the cars and tools, clarifying productive and economical development directions and generating creative suggestions for performance improvement.Manage initial concept, design and development support for the Design and Aerodynamics groups based in Italy.Provide continuous assessment of model correlation to track and subsystem rig test data, and work with the team’s Mathematical Modelers to improve the quality and robustness of modelling all aspects of the car, focusing on the car performance outcome.Education And Work Experience
GCSE/High School diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s degree in physics or mechanical engineering required; Masters/PhD preferred.At least five years’ experience in motor racing or in a Vehicle Dynamics or Performance aspect of mainstream automotive engineering is strongly preferred.Prior experience in Formula One would be beneficial.Specialized Knowledge And Skills
Strong communication skills, written and verbal.Strong technical background in racing car performance or vehicle dynamics.Ability to work to a high standard in stressful, time-sensitive situations, prioritizing and managing workload efficiently with multiple inputs/demands.Quick decision-making skills while working through problems in a scientific and analytical way.Ability to work well within a team environment with personnel at all levels.A sympathetic approach to colleagues and the ability to integrate within a group environment.A can-do positive approach and willingness to help others is essential.Equipment And Applications
Proficient with object-oriented coding (preferably C# or C++).Proficient with scripting tools (MATLAB).Familiar with lap simulation, race car setup and performance analysis tools.Experience with symbolic and acausal modelling languages (e.g., Modelica, Simscape or other multi-body/physical modelling software).Experience with the McLaren Electronic Systems tool chain for race car data analysis.Proficient with Microsoft Office.Work Environment And Physical Demands
An ability to work and prioritize within a high-pressure, time-sensitive environment is essential. The role may require occasional domestic and international travel and long, flexible hours including weekends. The physical demands may include lifting up to 50 pounds and occasional bending, squatting and manual dexterity. The work environment includes machinery, race cars, 7-post and other rigs, grinding debris, and hazardous fluids.
