Specialist SEMH School - Blackburn - Up to -600 per week - Full-Time - September Start

A specialist SEMH school in Blackburn is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join its experienced support team. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with backgrounds in SEN, care, youth work, residential support, sports coaching, mentoring, or behaviour support, as well as graduates considering careers in psychology, social work, mental health, or education.

The Role - SEN Teaching Assistant

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils with needs including SEMH, ADHD, Autism, attachment difficulties, trauma-related needs, and challenging behaviour.

You will work across 1:1 support, small-group interventions, and classroom activities, helping pupils access education while developing their social, emotional, and communication skills.

A key part of the role will involve recognising triggers and supporting pupils when they become dysregulated. You will use established behaviour management and de-escalation strategies, maintaining clear and consistent boundaries while helping pupils develop healthier ways to communicate and manage their emotions.

Ideal Candidate - SEN Teaching Assistant

  • Previous SEMH, SEN, or challenging behaviour experience highly desirable

  • Calm and confident when managing challenging situations
  • Able to establish firm, consistent boundaries while remaining empathetic
  • Resilient, patient, and emotionally intelligent
  • Psychology and related graduates encouraged to apply
