About the Role

We are seeking a Specialist Autism Teaching Assistant to join a secondary school in Southampton. This rewarding role involves supporting students with autism and additional needs both 1:1 and in small group settings, helping them to access learning and achieve their full potential. You will be working within the schoolandrsquo;s Learning Support Department, alongside a committed team of staff who provide tailored interventions and guidance.The role will be starting from January 2026 with the school looking to make the position permanent for the right person.andnbsp;

Key Responsibilities

  Provide 1:1 support to students with autism and additional needs.

  Assist small groups of students in accessing lessons and structured activities.

• 
  

  Adapt learning materials and approaches to meet individual needs.

• 
  

  Encourage independence, confidence, and positive social interactions.

• 
  

  Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and other support staff to implement personalised learning plans.

• 
  

  Monitor progress and maintain accurate records.

• 
  

  Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all learners.

Requirements

• 
  

  Previous experience supporting students with autism or additional needs (school or care setting).

• 
  

  Strong understanding of autism, ADHD, and associated learning/behavioural needs.

• 
  

  Patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting young people.

• 
  

  Excellent communication skills to work effectively with students, staff, and parents.

• 
  

  Knowledge of safeguarding and confidentiality practices.

• 
  

  Enhanced DBS check (support available if required).
