Production Design Leader

to join the WhatsApp Design System team. This maternity cover role focuses on shaping the design infrastructure for one of the world’s most widely used communication platforms.You will lead the development and maintenance of design system libraries and digital assets, drive operational excellence in production processes, and collaborate across design, engineering, and product teams. The role requires strong expertise in design systems, visual design, and mobile platforms (iOS/Android).Responsibilities

Define and evolve production design processes to ensure efficiency and high-quality output.Organise, maintain, and scale libraries of design system components and assets.Create and maintain detailed specifications for components.Collaborate with product designers, engineers, and brand teams for seamless handoffs.Provide expert visual systems support for icons, illustrations, and motion assets.Conduct design audits across iOS, Android, and web platforms.Troubleshoot design file issues and maintain organisational standards.Explore and integrate AI-driven design tooling and innovative solutions.Document processes and train others to scale team knowledge.Lead conversations with partners to align on design system goals.Support design refreshes and toolkit improvements.Qualifications

6+ years of relevant design experience.Minimum 3 years’ experience working with design systems.3+ years’ experience designing for mobile systems (iOS and Android).Expert in Figma (Autolayout, Libraries, Tokens).Experience with visual assets (illustrations, icons).Skilled with Adobe Creative Cloud or similar production tools.Experience with file management/versioning tools (Dropbox, Google Drive, GitHub).Familiar with HTML/CSS/basic markup.Strong process thinker with high attention to detail.Able to thrive in ambiguity and manage shifting priorities.Independent but effective communicator with cross-functional teams.Experience training and scaling design knowledge across teams.Nice to have

Experience building large-scale design systems in a major tech company.Strong presentation and stakeholder alignment skills.Experience leveraging AI and advanced tooling for innovation.Legal right to work
