ELM schemes incentivise farmers and land managers to deliver water, soil and biodiversity outcomes alongside food production. Working with Defra and delivery partner colleagues, you will aim to improve our services to farmers as part of the EA2030 strategy and government targets for water, the environment and climate. This role will influence the design and delivery of incentives within the wider context of shaping our organisational response to government reviews.The Environment Agency ELM team is seeking dynamic, strategic thinkers to help inform and shape the future of ELM, particularly the delivery of Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier (CSHT). You will contribute to the ongoing improvement of the scheme through its design and delivery, provide advice in meetings, manage commissions, oversee programme milestones, and identify future risks and resource requirements. You will work across teams and organisations with senior leaders to articulate a scheme that supports and delivers our outcomes.Responsibilities
Provide advice in meetings, manage commissions, and oversee programme milestones.Identify future risks and resource requirements and work with diverse teams to address them.Influence the design and delivery of incentives within the ELM framework and broader government reviews.Contribute to the delivery of Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier (CSHT) products for the Farming and Countryside Programme.Support continuous improvement of the CSHT scheme through its design and delivery.Collaborate with Defra, delivery bodies, and the agriculture sector to improve consistency and inter-organisation working.Operate in an agile, fast-paced, flexible, and collaborative environment to manage uncertainty and deliver clarity.Experience and qualifications
Experience of Agriculture and working with Defra and other statutory bodies is essential.Politically aware with excellent communication and networking skills.Understanding of environmental sensitivities associated with significant agricultural sector reform.Experience interpreting and evaluating evidence to propose effective risk-based solutions for challenging problems.Ability to prioritise and deliver complex work; a self-starter who develops and advances ideas.Ideal candidates will show they can: get stuff done through others; embody organisational culture; ensure information is trusted; cascade key information; build relationships quickly; and manage difficult situations effectively.Additional information
