Principal Electrical Engineer - Hydropower (Energy)OverviewStantec is working on many of the world’s largest, complex and most exciting hydropower projects. We are rapidly growing and seek a Principal Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic team, working on the design and development of cutting-edge hydropower and pumped storage hydro solutions. This role can be based anywhere in the UK.
Responsibilities
Lead the electrical engineering design of hydropower projects, including generators, control and instrumentation systems, protection, substations and transmission lines.
Perform design, modelling and analysis of electrical and electronic systems to ensure project feasibility and compliance with industry standards.
Take line management responsibility for some team members and own project deliverables as Principal Engineer.
Collaborate with civil, mechanical and other disciplines to deliver fully integrated project designs.
Engage with the growing transmission and distribution business and contribute to grid upgrade projects, including new transmission lines and substations.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
Qualifications
Ideally Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status with the IET, or working towards.
Experience with large rotating machines (generators or motors). Specific experience in hydro and/or pumped storage hydro systems is highly desirable but not essential. Electrical experience in other sectors, particularly within Energy and Water, is advantageous.
Proficient in producing and interpreting design drawings and documents, including single line diagrams, key line diagrams, block cable diagrams, calculations for equipment sizing and fault ratings, load schedules, specifications and reports. Familiar with collaborative reviews and design solutions.
Strong skills in delivering technical presentations to clients and design engineers, and participating in collaborative design discussions and technical workshops.
