JOB TITLE: Learning Support Coordinator
SITE: Post holder will work across all centres (North London/Hertfordshire)
REPORTS TO: Deputy Chief Executive
LINE MANAGEMENT: None
HOURS OF WORK: 35 hours per week
SALARY BAND: ££34,000 to £39,000 (Based on skills and experience appropriate to the organisation)
- OVERALL PURPOSE OF JOB
- To ensure that there is a consistent, high-quality provision of learning, social, and personal development support across the organisation to learners with special education needs and disabilities (SENDD)
- To support, and collaborate with, teaching staff in adapting course curriculums and developing teaching and assessment strategies to meet the needs of SEND learners.
- Coordinate the work of a team of Learning Support Assistants providing them with leadership and mentoring and ensuring that they are working effectively to provide a high standard of support to SEND learners.
- To summarise the identified learning, social and personal development needs of SEND learners and ensure that there is an individual learning plan in place to meet those needs.
- To teach a number of timetabled classes each week.
- To provide learning support to SEND learners in the classroom setting for a designated number of sessions week.
- To support SEND learners in developing their personal and social skills and facilitate their integration within the wider learner group.
- To carry out all administrative tasks related to the job role.
- To contribute to learner progress reviews
- Working as part of a team, enable SEND learners achieve their learning and development goals while on programme at First Rung.
Key responsibilities:
1 To summarise the identified needs of SEND learners and the teaching and learning and other support strategies set out in individual Educational Heath and Care Plans (EHCPs) to meet those needs.
2 Ensure that teaching staff are fully aware of the teaching, learning, assessment, and other support strategies that need to be out in place for each individual SEND learner.
3 Ensure that centre managers, learner and progression advisers are fully aware of the learning, social, and personal development needs of each individual SEND learner.
4 Working in collaboration with centre managers, coordinate the work of a team of learning support assistants.
5 Liaise with local authority SEND teams in relation to issues such as EHCP learner referrals, learner progress, annual reviews and progression support.
6 Support, and collaborate with, teaching staff in adapting course curriculums to meet the needs of SEND learners.
7 Support, and collaborate with teaching staff in developing teaching, learning and assessment strategies to meet the needs of SEND learners.
8 Oversee the ongoing tracking and recording of learner progress.
9 Identify and record the accommodations required by SEND learners in examinations.
10 Support and collaborate with centre managers and centre staff in meeting in meeting the social and personal development needs of SEND learners.
11 Promote the personal development of designated learners and facilitate their integration within the wider learner group.
12 Ensure that the personal care needs of SEND learners are addressed sensitively and appropriately to a high standard, including personal hygiene, preparing/buying meals and drinks and supporting with any medication in line with guidelines provide.
13 Participate in the recruitment and induction of learners as required.
14 Conduct initial assessments of learner needs.
15 Participate in the development of individual learning plans (ILPs) and the setting of agreed targets for learners.
16 Work closely with Centre Managers, Trainers and Learner and Progression Advisers to ensure that individual learner targets are being monitored and reviewed.
17 Liaise as necessary with the parents/carers of designated learners and with other stakeholders who may be involved in their welfare.
18 Work with teaching staff and centre staff in promoting positive relationships between SEND learners and the wider learner group.
19 In conjunction with Centre Managers, Trainers and Learner and Progression Advisers, maintain a system to record the progress of individual learners.
20 Attend and contribute to team meetings.
21 Collaborate with Learner and Progression Advisers and other staff to ensure that learners progress to an appropriate destination at the end of their time on programme.
22 Undertake training and development as appropriate.
23 To undertake administrative duties relating to designated learners and the additional learning support being provided.
24 Support the organisation quality agenda, following required processes and practices.
25 Comply fully with GDPR/data protection requirements.
26 Become familiar with, and put into practice, First Rung’s Health and Safety Policy and procedures.
27 Become familiar with, and put into practice, First Rung’s Equal Opportunity Policy, and procedures.
28 Play an active role in all First Rung’s marketing and promotional image including PR materials and attend marketing events.
29 All staff employed by First Rung are responsible for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the young people and vulnerable adults they are responsible for and / or come into contact with, following First Rung’s own Safeguarding Policy and practices.
30 Any other duty as reasonable requested by management.
