Salary: £24,000–£28,000 (depending on experience)
Location: Field-based across Barnet and Hillingdon
Hours: Monday–Friday, 9:00am–5:00pm (flexible)
Requirements: Own transport and ability to obtain a DBS certificate
We are seeking a motivated and reliable Junior ICT Technician to support primary and secondary school environments. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with basic IT experience or early-career exposure within education who is eager to learn and develop into a fully qualified ICT engineer.
The successful candidate will assist with on-site support, installations, troubleshooting, and routine maintenance across multiple school sites, working both independently and alongside experienced engineers. Similar roles involve supporting school ICT networks, maintaining hardware/software, and providing clear communication to non-technical staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting with installation, configuration, and maintenance of school ICT equipment (desktops, laptops, printers, tablets, interactive whiteboards, and network devices).
- Providing first-line troubleshooting for hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
- Supporting routine system checks, updates, and preventative maintenance.
- Escalating complex technical issues to senior engineers when required.
- Delivering friendly, professional customer service to school staff and users.
- Basic knowledge of Windows 10/11 and Microsoft Office.
- Understanding of fundamental networking or Active Directory concepts (training provided).
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical issues clearly.
- Enthusiastic, proactive, and willing to learn.
- Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise tasks.
- Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle.
- Willingness to undergo a DBS check (required for working in schools).
- Strong customer-facing skills, logical problem solving, and the ability to explain solutions in plain English are core expectations in comparable ICT field roles.
- Previous experience in an MSP or school IT environment.
- Exposure to Windows Server, Active Directory, or Group Policy.
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace for Education, or Apple School Manager.
- Awareness of education-sector networking or managed switches.
- Structured training and mentoring to develop into a full ICT Field Engineer.
