You''ll join our Business Onboarding Verification team – a diverse, cross-functional group passionate about solving complex problems with elegant solutions. We bring together backend and frontend engineers, mobile developers, designers, data analysts, and product managers who collaborate closely to deliver exceptional customer experiences. We our team is responsible for the critical verification journey that business customers complete before using Wise''s products. We own the entire verification lifecycle – from document collection flows and automated review systems to agent tooling and compliance monitoring. We operate with high autonomy, make data-driven decisions, and celebrate both technical excellence and customer impact. As a Senior Backend Engineer (IC4), you''ll provide technical leadership within the Business Onboarding Verification team, designing and implementing scalable, resilient systems that power our verification platform. You''ll tackle complex engineering challenges, mentor other engineers, and collaborate with product and design to create solutions that make verification faster, more accurate, and more customer-friendly.What You''ll Do:Design, build and maintain high-performance, scalable backend services using Java, Spring Boot, and cloud technologiesLead technical initiatives that improve our verification systems, focusing on automation, reliability, and performanceCollaborate with product managers to translate business requirements into technical solutionsMentor junior engineers, providing technical guidance and code reviewsDrive architectural decisions and technical strategy for verification systemsBuild internal tools that help our verification agents work efficientlyContribute to our engineering culture through knowledge sharing and best practicesWhat We\''re Looking For:3+ years of experience building backend systemsStrong system design skills with experience building distributed, high-throughput servicesExperience in working with database (SQL mainly)Track record of leading technical initiatives and mentoring other engineersStrong understanding of security best practices and data protection principlesExcellent problem-solving skills and attention to detailAbility to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiencesExperience with financial or KYC verification systems is a plusAdditional Information
