The OpportunityWe''re working exclusively with a well-established and growing construction firm based in Greenwich, London that is looking to hire an experienced Accountant / Financial Controller. This is a fantastic opportunity for a finance professional with a solid background in construction or a related field to join a forward-thinking business with a strong project pipeline across residential and commercial sectors.

This is a newly created role due to sustained growth, and it offers the successful candidate a real chance to shape the finance function from the ground up. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the Accountant / Financial Controller will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the company''s finances, project-based reporting, and long-term financial strategy.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone who is commercially minded, detail-oriented, and confident working in a fast-paced environment typical of the construction industry.

Key Responsibilities

Preparation of monthly and quarterly management accounts

Budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis

Cash flow management and financial planning

Overseeing VAT, CIS, PAYE, and other statutory compliance

Coordinating with external accountants and auditors

Developing and improving internal financial controls and reporting processes

Liaising with project teams to monitor costs and profitability

Managing payroll, subcontractor payments, and supplier invoicing

What We''re Looking For

Fully qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA, CIMA or equivalent)

5+ years of experience, preferably within construction or a project-based industry

Strong understanding of UK accounting standards, VAT, CIS, and HMRC compliance

Proficiency with accounting systems such as Sage, Xero, or QuickBooks

Advanced Excel skills and the ability to produce detailed reports and financial models

Excellent communication and leadership skills

A proactive, self-motivated approach with the ability to work independently
