Our local government clients are recruiting a Domestic Abuse Intervention Officer to undertake proactive case work to reduce risk and make victims safe, including visiting in the community and at home as needed, undertaking assertive outreach work to engage multiple-needs / hard-to-reach victims, working jointly with partner agencies, participating in and chairing case reviews, reporting to the Court and other forums, delivering actions within timescales, advocating for victims and meeting agreed targets.

 Responsibility

To undertake interviews with victims, their families, where appropriate and perpetrators of abuse as needed, to analyse and evaluate information to provide a holistic assessment of risk and need.

Qualification – Essential

  • GCSE Grade (or equivalent) in English Language and Mathematics.
  • The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) recognised social work qualification and HCPC registered, or Qualified Domestic Abuse Prevention Advocate / Independent Domestic Violence Advocate or equivalent recognised qualification.
  • Advanced – Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), social media and CRM.

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Experience Requirements - Criteria to be Evaluated at the Shortlisting Stage.

Successful candidates will have:

  • Experience of working with victims and/or perpetrators of domestic abuse, gender-based violence, risk analysis and management, child/adult safeguarding and additional vulnerabilities, e.g. mental health, substance misuse, homelessness.
  • Experience of conducting holistic and robust assessments of risk, working in partnership with clients and professionals to devise, implement and review plans and in achieving safe outcomes.
  • Ability to engage with victims, their families as appropriate and perpetrators as needed in a humane, fair, open, firm, comprehensible and professional manner.
  • Ability to understand and work with clients who have complex and multiple needs.
  • Ability to engage clients who are resistant / avoidant.
  • Ability to challenge and motivate clients and bring about change.
  • Ability to produce written work to an excellent standard of English in a timely way.
  • Ability to use ICT systems quickly and effectively.
  • Knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of the key agencies supporting victims and perpetrators of domestic abuse and their families.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across external partners.
  • Experience in working with partner agencies to assess and manage risk and in bringing about positive outcomes for clients.
  • Knowledge and awareness of issues relating to communities from a variety of ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds and appreciation of the impact gender inequality, discrimination and deprivation can have on victims, perpetrators and their families.
  • Ability and willingness to challenge discrimination.

Essential Compliance Requirements

  • 5 years' reference including current employment
  • Enhanced DBS check Summary
  • A pre-engagement screening is mandatory for this role.
