Key Responsibilities
- Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEN, including ASD, ADHD, speech & language needs, SEMH, and learning disabilities.
- Assist the class teacher in adapting and delivering differentiated learning activities to meet individual needs.
- Support pupils in developing independence, confidence, communication, and social skills.
- Implement strategies outlined in EHCPs, behaviour plans, and individual learning plans.
- Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and well-being through consistent, nurturing support.
- Prepare and organise resources to enhance learning experiences.
- Help pupils engage with classroom routines, transitions, and sensory or therapeutic activities.
- Work collaboratively with class teachers, SENCO, therapists, and external professionals to monitor progress.
- Maintain clear records of support, behaviour, and achievement where required.
- Ensure the classroom remains a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for all pupils.
Person Specification
Essential Skills & Qualities
- Experience working with children (SEN experience preferred but not essential).
- A positive, energetic, and proactive attitude.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Patience, empathy, and resilience when supporting children with complex needs.
- Understanding of safeguarding, behaviour management, and inclusive practice.
- Ability to build trusting, supportive relationships with pupils.
- GCSE English & Maths (or equivalent qualifications).
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain).
Desirable Skills
- Experience with ASD, SEMH, or non-verbal communication strategies (PECS, Makaton).
- Training in Team Teach, First Aid, or behaviour de-escalation.
- Previous school-based or educational support experience.
