A specialist school in Chippenham is seeking a caring and proactive Pastoral Support Worker to join its wider support team. You will work with children aged 5-16, including children with Autism, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, emotional regulation difficulties and additional learning needs.

As a Pastoral Support Worker, you will focus on the individual child rather than simply responding to behaviour. You will build strong relationships, understand the challenges children may be experiencing and provide practical encouragement to help them feel more secure, confident and ready to engage with school.



The Role

The Pastoral Support Worker will provide targeted support across the school day, helping children manage emotional, social and behavioural challenges both inside and outside the classroom.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group pastoral support based on individual children''s needs.
  • Building consistent, positive relationships with children and becoming a trusted adult.
  • Supporting children to recognise and communicate their emotions.
  • Helping children develop emotional regulation, resilience and coping strategies.
  • Providing reassurance and guidance during periods of anxiety, frustration or emotional dysregulation.
  • Encouraging positive behaviour, appropriate communication and respectful relationships.
  • Supporting children during break times, lunchtimes, transitions and other less structured parts of the school day.
  • Helping children overcome social and emotional barriers that may affect their learning.
  • Encouraging attendance, engagement and positive participation in school life.
  • Supporting targeted pastoral and wellbeing activities.
