Electrical Quantity Surveyor

If you''re an Electrical Quantity Surveyor who enjoys having genuine ownership of projects from tender through to final account, this is an opportunity to make a real commercial impact.

This role sits at the heart of project delivery, working closely with Project Managers, Engineers, subcontractors, and clients to ensure projects remain commercially successful from day one. You''ll be involved in key decisions, managing risk, driving profitability, and ensuring the commercial position of each project is always clear, accurate, and well-managed.

This is not a role where you''ll be sitting on the sidelines. You''ll be a key part of the project team, influencing outcomes and helping deliver successful project results from start to finish.

The Role

As Electrical Quantity Surveyor, you will take responsibility for the commercial management of projects throughout their lifecycle, ensuring strong cost control, effective contract administration, and successful commercial outcomes.

You will work closely with both site and office-based teams, maintaining accurate commercial reporting while proactively identifying risks and opportunities as projects progress.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, develop, and manage Bills of Quantities (BOQs), budgets, cost reports, forecasts, and profit plans.
  • Maintain full commercial control of projects from tender stage through to final account.
  • Lead and participate in commercial meetings with clients, subcontractors, and internal project teams.
  • Provide accurate and timely reporting on project commercial performance.
  • Manage subcontractor accounts, interim valuations, payment certificates, and final account agreements.
  • Ensure payments are administered in line with contractual agreements and retention provisions.
  • Prepare and submit monthly applications for payment, including remeasurements, variations, dayworks, and contractual claims.
  • Identify, prepare, negotiate, and agree variations, site changes, and additional works.
  • Assess and manage contract claims while maintaining comprehensive supporting records.
  • Identify commercial risks at an early stage and escalate issues where appropriate.
  • Work closely with Planning Engineers to ensure programme progress aligns with commercial reporting and forecasts.
  • Carry out remeasurement of subcontract works and assess project changes as they occur.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed commercial records to support cost control and claims management.
  • Negotiate effectively with clients and their representatives to achieve commercially beneficial outcomes.
  • Promote high standards of accuracy, professionalism, reliability, and commercial awareness across project teams.
  • Ensure compliance with company information security policies and procedures.

About You

You are commercially minded, detail-oriented, and capable of managing your workload independently while delivering accurate results in a fast-paced environment.

You''ll likely have:

  • Experience working as an Electrical Quantity Surveyor within construction, MEP, engineering, or building services projects.
  • Strong knowledge of cost control, contract administration, valuations, variations, and final accounts.
  • Experience managing subcontractor packages and commercial reporting.
  • The ability to assess commercial risks and identify opportunities to improve project performance.
  • A strong understanding of the relationship between project programmes, progress, and commercial outcomes.
  • Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • The ability to prioritise effectively and work using your own initiative.
  • Clear communication skills and confidence working with clients, project teams, and subcontractors.

Why This Opportunity?

The Electrical Quantity Surveyor plays a critical role in the success of every project. Strong commercial management leads to better project outcomes, healthier margins, reduced disputes, and smoother final account agreements.

This opportunity offers the chance to be a genuine commercial partner within the project team, where your expertise, judgement, and decision-making will directly influence project success.

If you''re looking for a role where you''ll be trusted with responsibility, given the autonomy to make an impact, and involved throughout the full project lifecycle, we''d like to hear from you.
