We are a Multi Academy Trust comprising six secondary schools and one primary school with over 750 employees and over 5,500 students, based in Dudley, West Midlands.This is an exciting opportunity to join the Trust’s Central Team working as a Governance and Compliance Officer. Reporting to the Director of Strategy and Governance you’ll play a key role in supporting effective local governance across our Trust. From clerking meetings and advising on compliance, to managing governor recruitment and maintaining accurate records, your work will directly support our mission to deliver outstanding education.We are seeking an exceptional individual who is forward-thinking, highly organised, and able to manage and prioritise competing demands in a fast-paced environment. As Governance and Compliance Officer, you will play a vital role in supporting the effective operation of our Local Academy Committees (LACs) across the Trust. Working closely with Chairs of Governors, Headteachers, school leaders, and associate governors, you will ensure that local governance is delivered in line with the Trust’s Scheme of Delegation, Articles of Association, and statutory requirements. You will provide expert advice on governance legislation and best practice, facilitate meetings, maintain accurate records, and support the development of strong, compliant governance across our schools.Responsibilities
Clerk LAC and panel meetings, ensuring accurate minutes and procedural complianceProvide clear and timely advice to Local Academy Committees (LACs), ensuring associate governors fully understand and fulfil their statutory and strategic responsibilitiesManage local governance recruitment, induction, and training recordsMaintain up-to-date governance documentation and statutory registersSupport data protection, Freedom of Information, and complaints processesPromote a culture of strong governance and professional integrityAssist in the resolution of school-level complaints, exclusions, and hearings in accordance with the Trust’s policies and proceduresDeliver high-quality administrative and clerking support that underpins effective governance and contributes to the Trust’s strategic prioritiesThe ideal candidate
The ideal candidate will bring experience in educational governance—preferably within a Multi Academy Trust—and demonstrate a strong sense of professionalism and pride in their work. They will be adaptable, proactive, and capable of working flexibly across multiple priorities. With excellent written and verbal communication skills, the postholder will be confident in using their initiative, maintaining high standards of accuracy, and building effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. A meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to upholding the Trust’s values and governance standards are essential.A driving license is required and the postholder will need their own car, insured to cover business use. You will be required to work flexibly to support the needs of the Trust as some early evening work is required due to the nature of the role.Safeguarding and recruitment
