Health care support worker / driver

Overview
Health care support worker / driver role at Charity Society. The Urgent Treatment Centre treats a wide variety of illness and injury across all age ranges. The HCA will work in a supporting role, providing high quality patient centred care under the supervision of the Urgent Care Practitioners and General Practitioners. The Urgent Care Service also provides home visits by clinicians who require a Healthcare Assistant / Driver to transport them to patient homes and provide HCA support during visits. The HCA will also provide a patient transport service to support patient access to Urgent Treatment Centre appointments as required and after risk assessment by a clinician.Note: This role requires a valid UK driving licence and, for new to care applicants, completion of a care certificate once employment commences; sponsorship for new to care applicants is not offered. Full eligibility and visa requirements apply and certain sponsorship arrangements may be limited by policy.Responsibilities
Carry out routine HCA duties, e.g. recording observations, taking blood and urine samples, monitoring and escorting patients under the supervision of the managing clinician.Perform ECG recordings, minor dressings, and immobilisation techniques (e.g. splints, plaster-of-paris back slabs).Stock checks and restocking consulting rooms and the home visiting car; perform car checks as required.Support clinicians during home visits and provide patient transport services to Urgent Treatment Centre appointments as needed, following clinician risk assessment.Promote high quality, patient-centred care and maintain infection control and patient safety in line with Trust policies.Communicate effectively with patients, their families and carers; maintain a reassuring and supportive atmosphere to promote physical and mental wellbeing.Use initiative to respond to changes in a patient’s condition within your scope of practice, recognising limitations and escalating concerns as appropriate.Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Relevant NVQ level 3 or equivalent relevant experience.Care Certificate or willingness to complete within first 6 months of employment.GCSE or equivalent in English and Mathematics.Driver with UK driving licence.Good verbal and written command of English; ability to act on own initiative; good communication skills; ability to work under pressure; leadership qualities.Computer skills and ability to learn new skills.Desirable
Short courses relevant to patient and clinical care duties.Pastoral care to mentors and students when providing feedback on performance.Knowledge of care procedures, clinical observations, relevant legislation.Special Requirements
