Temporary Part-Time Payroll Assistant

Location: Colney Heath, near St Albans
Pay Rate: -16.00 per hour
Hours: 3 days per week, Monday to Wednesday , 9:00am - 5:00pm
Contract: Temporary
Duration: Ideally 28th September 2026 to the end of December 2026
Working arrangement: Office based

About the Role

We are an established and successful business based in Colney Heath, near St Albans, and we are looking for an experienced and reliable Payroll Assistant to join our team on a temporary, part-time basis.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone with previous payroll experience who is looking for a part-time temporary position through to the end of December 2026.

Working as part of the team, you will be responsible for assisting with the accurate and timely processing of both weekly and monthly payroll, ensuring employees are paid correctly and on time.

Key Responsibilities

• Processing weekly and monthly payroll accurately and efficiently.
• Preparing and checking payroll information prior to processing.
• Maintaining accurate employee payroll records.
• Processing starters, leavers and changes to employee details.
• Checking payroll calculations and identifying any discrepancies.
• Assisting with payroll queries and resolving issues promptly.
• Ensuring payroll deadlines are consistently met.
• Maintaining confidentiality when handling sensitive payroll and employee information.
• Providing general payroll and administrative support to the wider team as required.
• Other ad hoc duties would be assisting with Accounts Payable and some archiving.

About You

We are looking for someone who is organised, reliable and detail-focused, with previous experience in payroll.

Ideally, you will have:

• Previous experience of processing payroll.
• Good knowledge of payroll procedures and processes.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Good numerical and administrative skills.
• The ability to work to strict deadlines.
• Strong organisational and time management skills.
• The ability to handle confidential information professionally.
• Good communication skills and a helpful, team-focused approach.
• Experience using the ADP payroll system would be advantageous, although this is not essential.

You should be comfortable working independently while also being part of a friendly and supportive team.

• Temporary position running through to the end of December 2026
• Based fully in the office in Colney Heath, near St Albans
• Own transport is essential due to the office location
