What will you be doing?
- Producing, assembling and finishing high-quality bespoke furniture in a workshop environment.
- Reading and accurately interpreting technical drawings, specifications and measurements.
- Selecting, measuring, marking, cutting and shaping a range of materials while minimising waste.
- Producing components to exact specifications using a variety of hand tools, machinery and equipment.
- Using both traditional and modern joinery techniques to assemble furniture and components.
- Applying required finishes, including laminates, to protect materials and achieve a high-quality appearance.
- Inspecting completed work to ensure it meets required quality standards and project specifications.
- Carrying out adjustments, repairs and remedial work where necessary.
- Maintaining tools, machinery and equipment in a clean and safe working condition and reporting faults promptly.
- Maintaining a clean, organised and safe working environment.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues and supervisors to meet project deadlines and production requirements.
- Communicating clearly about project progress, material requirements, machinery issues and any potential delays.
- Supporting the training and development of junior staff or apprentices where required.
- Identifying and resolving production issues where possible and adapting to changes in project requirements.
- Maintaining accurate records of materials used, time spent and tasks completed.
- Keeping up to date with woodworking techniques, tools and industry developments and participating in relevant training.
- Loading vans safely when required, ensuring finished products are adequately protected during transportation.
- Driving may be required as part of the role, with responsibility for notifying the company of any changes to driving capability or licensing.
- Previous experience working as a Bench Joiner or in a similar skilled woodworking role.
- Strong understanding of woodworking and joinery techniques.
- Ability to accurately read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Experience using a range of woodworking hand tools, machinery and equipment.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Ability to accurately measure, cut, shape and assemble components to specification.
- Good understanding of materials and their appropriate use.
- Ability to identify and resolve problems during the production process.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work efficiently to deadlines while maintaining quality.
- Strong understanding of workshop health and safety requirements.
- Willingness to ask for guidance when unfamiliar or not confident with the safe operation of machinery.
- Safety footwear must be worn at all times, with appropriate PPE used as required.
- Forklift operation requires current training and certification.
- Full/current driving licence may be required depending on the requirements of the role.
