Hardware Engineering Manager
to lead and grow a team of mechanical, electrical and product design engineers in a highly regulated defence environment. Based in South London, this is a key leadership role where you''ll be responsible for the functional capability, quality, and performance of the hardware engineering team.This is more than a job - it''s a chance to shape and deliver technology that underpins the Royal Navy and wider UK defence systems.What you''ll be doing:
Leading and managing a team of engineers across mechanical, electrical and product design disciplinesOverseeing capability planning, recruitment, and career development within the functionEnsuring quality delivery of engineering output across multiple programmes and projectsProviding technical oversight on design reviews, plans and documentationSupporting continuous improvement and aligning ways of working with company frameworksManaging tools and assets required by the teamDriving compliance with engineering standards, processes and export controlsActing as the functional point of contact for the hardware engineering capability within the organisationWhat we''re looking for:
Degree-qualified in a relevant engineering subject (electrical, mechanical or similar) or extensive relevant experienceStrong background in hardware engineering (mechanical or electrical), ideally within the defence, aerospace, or maritime sectorsExperience managing and developing high-performing engineering teamsUnderstanding of the full product lifecycle, from design through to manufacture and deliveryKnowledge of hardware defence standards, DfM, FEA, safety and compliance (REACH, RoHS etc.)Familiarity with analysis techniques, production methods, and engineering toolsWhy apply?
