We are seeking a Head of Commercial to shape and lead the strategic direction of the commercial function within Story Plant. This new, pivotal role comes at an exciting time in our growth and will support the integration of our Geotechnical team as well as our 4 regional depots. Driving a culture of robust commercial management, strong client relationships and technical excellence and working as part of a small leadership team, you will have the autonomy to develop both the team and commercial processes to align with future needs.You will drive commercial leadership of the Story Plant and Geo-tech business and take overall responsibility for the development, implementation, and review of commercial activity within all projects and services to achieve consistently successful commercial outcomes.Key Responsibilities

Lead the commercial strategy across the Plant Division, supporting operational teams to set strong work bank forecasts with the objective of minimising risks, maximising opportunities and avoiding contractual disputesDrive robust decision-making through analytical insight and commercial acumenStrengthen subcontractor and supplier relationships and ensure effective contract managementChampion a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and commercial excellence within Operational teamsKey Skills and Experience

First and foremost, you are a proactive team player with exceptional interpersonal skills to fit within a small, tight knit leadership teamProven experience of leading and developing a commercial teamExcellent working knowledge of the plant hire, infrastructure, construction or rail sectorsAbility to coach, mentor and develop teams across the business to increase their commercial acumen and understandingExperience in building collaborative relationships with existing and new clients and suppliersStrong analytical skills and attention to detail – focusing on ‘less is more’ to present robust and value-added commercial informationExceptional influence and negotiation capabilities.Ability to set vision, targets, and execute plans and create a healthy spirit of accountabilityAbility to create business cases / investment proposals and a natural desire to innovateExperience of working with a variety of contract types and negotiating contractual termsIT literate and proficient in Microsoft Office package as a minimumAbility to deliver a strategic commercial role, formal qualifications in commercial or business management are desirable rather than essentialLocation is flexible across our Salsburgh, Carlisle, Birmingham and Beckingham Depots with regular travel to Carlisle expected.Think you’d be a good fit?Apply today to start your story or email PeopleTeam@storyplant.co.uk to arrange an informal chat to learn more about the role.
