Company OverviewWe are looking for a Freelance Site Manager to oversee the construction of a new build school in Faringdon, Oxfordshire. This role involves working closely with the Project Manager and utilising the support of an Assistant Site Manager to ensure the project is delivered safely, on time, and to the required quality standards.
Key Responsibilities- Manage all onsite construction activities, ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation and company policies.
- Coordinate and supervise subcontractors and site operatives, ensuring efficient workflow and adherence to project timelines.
- Monitor progress against the project programme and communicate updates to the Project Manager regularly.
- Conduct daily site inspections to ensure quality control and resolve any onsite issues promptly.
- Manage site resources effectively, including materials, plant, and labour allocation to maintain productivity and cost efficiency.
- Ensure all site documentation, including risk assessments, method statements, and site diaries, are accurately maintained and up to date.
- Promote best practise in sustainable construction methods and environmental management relevant to educational new builds.
- Liaise with client representatives, consultants, and local authorities to facilitate smooth project delivery.
- Lead toolbox talks and briefings to maintain site safety awareness and compliance.
- Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) certificate.
- Valid Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card.
- First Aid at Work qualification.
- Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
- Proven experience managing new build projects within the education sector, preferably schools.
- Demonstrable knowledge of construction methods and best practise associated with new school builds.
- Experience working on projects in South East England or similar regional environments is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of health and safety legislation and its practical application onsite.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills to maintain project schedules.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and contractual documents.
- Effective communication skills to liaise confidently with all project stakeholders.
- Capability to lead and motivate site teams, including mentoring junior staff.
- Proficiency in managing site documentation and reporting systems.
- Knowledge of environmental and sustainability standards related to construction.
- The role requires regular presence on site, often outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Typical working hours are full-time, with flexibility to accommodate project demands and deadlines.
- Occasional requirement to attend meetings offsite or at client offices.
- Responsibility for maintaining a safe working environment for all personnel on site.
