Project Engineering Manager

with recent experience on

National Grid substation projects

to lead the coordination and delivery of multidisciplinary design through all stages of project development.This is a pivotal role for a technically experienced and commercially aware professional, capable of overseeing large-scale design packages, managing stakeholders, and driving engineering excellence on complex infrastructure works.The Role

Manage the delivery of multi-disciplinary design across

National Grid transmission projects , from bid and FEED through constructionLead internal design teams and third-party consultants to ensure design intent meets technical, safety, commercial, and environmental expectationsOversee subcontractor design packages and manage technical approvalsSupport and advise on buildability, safety by design, and maintainabilityLiaise with planning authorities and statutory bodies (e.g. DNOs, utility providers) as requiredDrive the development and tracking of the

design deliverables programme , including gate reviews, change control, and value engineeringLead BIM coordination and data sharing practices in line with client protocolsPromote Lean construction principles and ensure lessons learned are captured and shared across the businessMonitor and optimise design budgets and resource allocationServe as the primary liaison between engineering, commercial, and delivery teams—ensuring alignment and clarity at every stageWhat You’ll Bring

Recent, hands-on experience

managing design delivery on

National Grid substation or HV transmission projectsIn-depth understanding of

UK transmission regulations , engineering governance, and National Grid standardsDemonstrated ability to manage complex technical design scopes and third-party teams across multiple disciplinesStrong commercial awareness and experience with design budgeting, risk/value management, and programme trackingExcellent communication and stakeholder management skillsWorking knowledge of

BIM standards and digital collaboration toolsA strong safety focus with a track record of promoting

Safety by Design

principlesDegree in Electrical, Civil, or relevant engineering discipline; Chartered Engineer status preferredThis is an opportunity to take a lead role in delivering nationally significant energy infrastructure.
