The role is with our client, an employee-owned construction solutions partner with offices across North America, delivering projects that enable communities to thrive while upholding rigorous safety and quality standards. The client has nine decades of experience and the resources to undertake projects of all scopes and complexities. Candidates must be willing to relocate to the greater Toronto area.Responsibilities

Develop coaching and mentoring skills with the estimating team throughout all aspects of the estimating processDetermine the project scope of workSet up and complete estimates in the company standard estimating programPrepare preliminary construction schedules based on self-perform productivities and subcontractor input to determine project duration and resulting overhead costsComplete estimate quantification and costing of general conditions, labour, and equipment, including productivities, material, and subtrade plugsIdentify and develop constructability requirements for project constructionAnalyze design criteria and recommend best options based on cost, engineering quality, and material availabilityIdentify and propose project risk and cost mitigation as well as potential for project opportunities and cost savingsAnalyze and propose potential strategies, advantages, or innovations for the project to provide a more competitive bidApply labour and equipment productivities to estimates based on historically accurate valuesAnalyze subcontractor bids for irregularities and ensure full scope of work is includedParticipate in or lead the bid close on medium-sized projectsOversee bid closings of mid to large projects led by more junior team membersAssemble conceptual and budget costs using past project analytics, benchmarking, and historical dataDevelop scopes of work for subcontractors to provide budgeting assistance on medium-sized projectsEngage in subcontractor post-award scope clarification and negotiationPrepare an estimate schedule of all activities required to complete a fully quantified and costed estimate based on a full review of the Estimate Checklist, including milestone dates and required support resourcesLead a team of support estimators and operational staff, planning their time, overseeing delegation and quality of work, and compiling input on medium to large complexity projectsLead the estimating team while managing, mentoring, and reviewing the work of estimators and other support staff throughout the estimate lifecycleDemonstrate a competitive passion and high-performance attitudeRemain accountable for estimating responsibilities and uphold accountability for supporting estimatorsQualifications

Completion of a diploma training program at a college or technical school; Gold Seal Certified, LEED Accredited, and LEAN experience are assetsAbility to understand, utilize, and communicate specialized information in speech and written text10-12 years of experience in heavy civil, transit or infrastructure industries; design-build experience and proficiency in various procurement methods are assetsProficiency in MS Excel, scheduling software (Primavera preferred), quantification software (OnScreen Takeoff, Bluebeam, Agtek), and BIM modelling is an assetClear and professional written and verbal communication skills with strong organizational and time management abilitiesAdvanced understanding of tender documents, specifications, and drawings with knowledge of contractual requirementsUnderstanding of all construction scopes of work and ability to develop scopes for company-initiated tendersAbility to develop less experienced estimators’ skills through teaching and guidance throughout the estimate lifecycleAbility to foster and develop relationshipsEmployment specifics
