The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Building Services Design Engineer to join a major high-security infrastructure programme based in Aldermaston. You will be responsible for delivering robust, compliant, and efficient electrical building services designs across a complex and highly regulated facility.

The role
This is a 12 months for contract staff role, with potential for extension.
The client is primarily open to Umbrella (PAYE) and Permanent staff.
Ltd company contractors may be considered, but only following a detailed IR35 assessment confirming an outside IR35 status.
Hybrid working: Minimum 3 days per week onsite in Aldermaston.
Working pattern: 40 hours per week, with the option of 4 x 10-hour days (4-day working week).

Your duties and responsibilities will be

• Develop and produce detailed electrical building services designs, drawings, and specifications in accordance with relevant standards and project requirements.
• Undertake electrical load calculations, cable sizing, and fault level assessments.
• Design and coordinate power distribution, lighting, emergency lighting, fire alarms, earthing/bonding, and other associated electrical systems.
• Ensure designs meet all applicable regulations, codes, and safety requirements, including those specific to high-security and critical infrastructure environments.
• Collaborate with mechanical engineers, architects, civil/structural teams, and other stakeholders to achieve fully integrated solutions.
• Participate in design reviews, hazard identification, and constructability assessments.
• Provide technical input to procurement activities and review supplier documentation.
• Support installation, commissioning, and handover phases, providing design clarifications and resolving technical queries.
• Maintain accurate records of design development, decisions, and changes.

You will have the following qualifications & experience

• Degree or HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Proven track record in electrical building services design for complex, safety-critical, or high-security facilities.
• Proficiency with relevant design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, Amtech/Trimble, Dialux/Relux).
• Strong knowledge of BS7671 and other applicable UK and international standards.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work to tight deadlines.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Current SC security clearance is essential (must be in place before starting).
