We are working with a leading Tier 1 main contractor that is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join its established Eastern region.

The successful Senior Quantity Surveyor will take a leading commercial role on a major -76m new-build DfE school project in Thurston, Suffolk. As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will take commercial responsibility for the project, working closely with the wider project team to ensure it is delivered successfully from both a financial and contractual perspective.

You will be involved across the full commercial lifecycle of the scheme, including procurement, subcontractor management, cost reporting, valuations, variations and final accounts.

The role will suit someone comfortable operating at Senior Quantity Surveyor level on a major construction project and who enjoys having genuine ownership of the commercial delivery.

You will work closely with the Project Manager, operational team and regional commercial leadership while managing key subcontract packages and maintaining strong relationships with the client and supply chain.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Taking a leading commercial role on a -76m new-build education project.

• Managing commercial performance and maintaining strong financial control throughout the project.

• Procurement and management of subcontractor packages.

• Preparing and reviewing subcontract documentation.

• Managing subcontractor applications, payments, variations and final accounts.

• Cost reporting, forecasting and cash-flow management.

• Identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities.

• Managing variations and ensuring changes are captured and recovered appropriately.

• Working closely with the operational and design teams throughout delivery.

• Maintaining accurate project financial information and reporting to senior commercial management.

• Supporting contractual administration and ensuring commercial procedures are followed.

• Developing strong relationships with the client, consultants and supply chain.

• Driving packages through to final account and project completion.

• Supporting and mentoring junior members of the commercial team where required.

We are looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor with a strong main contracting background.

Ideally, you will have experience delivering major new-build projects within education, healthcare, commercial or another relevant sector. Previous DfE experience would be particularly useful, although this is not essential where candidates can demonstrate strong experience on comparable projects.

You should be commercially confident and comfortable taking responsibility for significant packages or leading the commercial function on a major scheme.

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• Previous experience working for a recognised main contractor.

• Experience at Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor level.

• A strong understanding of commercial and contractual management.

• Experience working on sizeable new-build construction projects.

• Strong procurement and subcontract management experience.

• Experience with cost reporting, forecasting, variations and final accounts.

• The ability to work closely with both operational and commercial teams.

• Strong communication and negotiation skills.

• A relevant construction or Quantity Surveying qualification would be advantageous.

• Education or DfE project experience would be beneficial but is not essential.
