GSL Education are seeking a committed and enthusiastic Post 16 Teaching Assistant to join a school in Poole. This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with post-16 learners, supporting them in their studies and helping them prepare for further education, training, or employment. Ideally, candidates will hold a valid driving licence and be willing to drive as part of their role.

The Role:

As a Post 16 Teaching Assistant, you will assist teaching staff in supporting learners across a variety of subjects and vocational pathways. You will provide guidance and encouragement, helping students develop independence, confidence, and essential life skills. You will also contribute to creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment tailored to the needs of post-16 learners.

About the School:

The school is an education setting based for 16 – 25+ years old with Special Educational Needs. It is based on 350 acres of beautiful Dorset countryside. The school operate enterprise activities and vocational teaching methods to bridge the gap between education and employment for young people and adults with SEN in Dorset and the local area. The school focuses on vocations like horticulture, agriculture, equine skills and animal care as well as many more, to enrich the lives and education of its pupils. 

Responsibilities of a Post 16 Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide one-to-one or small group support to post-16 students in academic and vocational subjects.
  • Assist teachers in planning and delivering lessons tailored to individual learner needs.
  • Support students in developing study skills, organisation, and independence.
  • Help manage behaviour and provide emotional and social support as needed.
  • Assist with practical activities, work placements, and vocational learning projects.
  • Supervise students during classroom sessions, study periods, and off-site activities.
  • Record and monitor student progress, providing feedback to teachers.
  • Promote a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment.
  • Support extra-curricular activities and school events as required.

Post 16 Teaching Assistant Qualifications:

  • Experience working with post-16 students or young adults, ideally in an education setting.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a proactive approach to supporting learners.
  • CACHE Level 2/3, NVQ in Education/Childcare, or relevant qualifications desirable but not essential.
  • A valid driving licence and willingness to drive is highly preferable.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection policies.
