Senior/ Principal Consultant - Power SystemsManchester or Glasgow – Hybrid, 3 days a week in-office. Salary – up to £75,000 DOE Plus Benefits + Bonus.

Our client is seeking a Senior or Principal Power Systems Consultant to join their high-performing Connections Team. This team delivers high-quality, safe solutions across generation technologies, energy storage, industrial facilities, and public and private networks.

Responsibilities

Carry out power system protection and earthing studies.

Provide technical advice to clients and mentor junior engineers.

Specify primary plant and protection equipment; represent the organisation at industry events.

Perform specialist power system studies to deliver safe and optimised solutions for clients and ensure projects are completed to high standards.

Qualifications

BEng/BSc in Power Systems or Electrical Engineering.

Minimum 10 years of experience in the electricity industry (generators, network operators, suppliers, ICPs, or consultancies) in the UK or abroad.

Proven experience delivering protection studies; expertise in time-graded overcurrent and differential protection techniques.

Understanding of protection schemes drawings and specification of primary and protection equipment.

Proficiency in power systems modelling and analysis using IPSA, PowerFactory, PSSe, SKM, ETAP, PSCAD, or CDEGs.

Strong commercial awareness; ability to deliver high-quality technical reports on time and within budget.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills; proficient with MS Office tools.

Proactive, detail-oriented, and solutions-driven with a professional work ethic.

Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards it.

Experience in a consultancy environment, including business development, bid proposals, and client-facing activities.

Experience delivering earthing and arc flash studies.

Knowledge of UK Grid and Distribution codes, ENA Engineering Recommendations (e.g., G99), and industry standards.
