About the Role
Opus People Solutions are currently recruiting on behalf of our Client, Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council on a temporary basis for a Duty Manager.
This role offers regular evening and weekend work, with the potential for a permanent opportunity for the right candidate. The Duty Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day front of house operation, ensuring the smooth delivery of activities and events across all areas of the venue, including the Theatre, Studio, Library, Gallery, Encore Caf-, and Theatre Bar.
The role involves leading and coordinating front of house staff and volunteers, maintaining high standards of customer service, and ensuring a welcoming, safe, and efficient environment for visitors, audiences, performers, hirers, and the wider community.
This position requires a flexible approach, with regular evening, weekend, and bank holiday working to meet the operational demands of the venue. Rotas will be issued in advance and aligned to the venue''s programme of events on a casual basis. For the right candidates, there is potential for a permanent opportunity.
Shift Patterns
Shift patterns will vary and may include:
- Day shifts: 11:00am - 4:00pm
- Evening shifts: 4:00pm - 10:30pm/11:00pm
- Evening cover is required 7 days per week
- Regular weekend and evening work available
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day operation of the theatre during events and performances
- Act as the main point of contact during shifts, ensuring smooth venue operations
- Deliver exceptional customer service to members of the public, performers, visiting groups, and stakeholders
- Ensure health and safety procedures are followed at all times
- Handle incidents, complaints, and unexpected situations calmly and professionally
- Support front-of-house activities and supervise staff where required
- Make informed decisions and respond effectively to operational issues
- Maintain a welcoming and inclusive environment for all visitors
- Assist with opening and closing procedures for the venue
Essential Experience & Skills
- Previous experience in a Duty Manager within Theatres, Events, Hospitality and Leisure
- Experience dealing with members of the public in a customer-facing environment
- Experience managing situations and making decisions independently
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
- Friendly, approachable, and personable nature
- Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills
- Excellent customer service focus
- Confidence when dealing with a wide range of people
- Ability to act as a positive ambassador for the venue
- Reliable, flexible, and adaptable approach to work
- Passion for supporting community and cultural events
Uniform
- Uniform will be provided
- Candidates must provide their own smart black trousers and black shoes
- A white shirt should be worn on the first day while uniform is being arranged
