Salary: £25,000 – £28,000 per annum
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm (37.5 hours per week)
We are recruiting for a Materials Administrator to join a well-established engineering business in Swindon. This is a varied and hands-on role that combines office administration with practical workshop support, making it ideal for someone who enjoys both desk-based and operational responsibilities.
Approximately 50% of the role will be office-based, with the remaining 50% spent in the workshop working alongside technicians to pick materials, prepare works orders, and ensure components are correctly allocated for engineering assemblies.
Key Responsibilities
- Processing and administering works orders and material requirements.
- Picking components and parts for engineering assemblies in line with production schedules.
- Cross-checking picked items against engineering paperwork, works orders, and bills of materials to ensure complete accuracy.
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings to identify the correct components.
- Maintaining accurate records using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Liaising with customers and clients over the phone, providing updates and responding to enquiries in a professional manner.
- Working closely with the workshop team to support production deadlines.
- Monitoring stock levels and reporting any shortages or discrepancies.
- Ensuring all documentation is accurate, organised, and up to date.
- Supporting the wider team with general administrative duties as required.
The successful candidate will be highly organised, methodical, and possess exceptional attention to detail. You will be comfortable working in a fast-paced engineering environment where accuracy is critical and deadlines are important.
You will have:
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent administrative and organisational skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a methodical approach.
- The ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
- Strong communication skills with a confident and professional telephone manner.
- Experience within an engineering, manufacturing, production or technical environment is highly desirable.
- The ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
- A proactive, flexible and positive attitude.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a small, close-knit team.
- Good problem-solving skills and the confidence to take ownership of your workload.
- A good level of physical fitness, as the role involves regular movement around the workshop and manual picking of materials and components.
