An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join our orthopaedic team in Glangwilli General Hospital, Carmarthen. This can be a fixed term or a secondment. This post is a Fixed Term/Secondment for 7 months until 31.03.2026 to cover a career break. If you are a Hywel Dda University Health Board employee and are applying for this post as a secondment, agreement for the secondment is needed from your current manager prior to application. This role provides an opportunity for a band 6 to gain experience and develop for progression in their own self development.Role overviewYou will provide clinical leadership, specialist expertise and supervision to Occupational Therapy staff, Therapy Assistant Practitioners, Rehabilitation Assistants/Frailty Support Workers, and students.You will lead the team clinically and operationally, including service development, personal development of the team, and management of sickness absence.The team covers several wards in Glangwili Hospital treating conditions such as spinal injuries, fractured neck of femur, and other orthopaedic conditions, plus a small number of surgical cases.We are an innovative, proactive team of Occupational Therapists who work closely with the wider acute multidisciplinary team, intermediate care, community and third sector teams to deliver the right support, at the right time, with a home-first ethos.Main dutiesMaintain a strong clinical grounding in older people rehabilitation and complex manual handling, with understanding of current issues affecting hospitals, intermediate care and community services.Work autonomously and in collaboration with team members in a managerial and clinical role.Lead and supervise OT staff, support staff, and students; contribute to service development and governance through audit and clinical effectiveness activities.Network with acute and community colleagues to coordinate a seamless service across pathways and sectors; promote evidence-based practice and professional development.Demonstrate organisational ability and a commitment to service development and evaluation through clinical governance, audit, and research activity.Welsh language ability is desirable; English and/or Welsh speakers are welcome to apply.About UsHywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and bordering counties.
